I think the vila vita hotel in Porches. It's 5 star quite expensive, right by the sea, nice beaches has loads of restaurants, lovely views,. Look up this hotel at www.google.co.uk and you will find it's own website. If you want, you can hire their own boat. Around that hotel, there is go- karting. If you like fine fish restaurants contact the hotel about a restaurant called Gi-Gi's in Quinta Du Lago. It's very nice. If you like fine food, also go to Quinta du Lago where there are 2 very nice restaurants called Oceanios, and Alambique. It's quite cheap for that type of food quality. Hope this helps!

This is not a hotel but it is a traditional olive farm which has been beautifully renovated. I have stayed there a few times and it is beautiful and run by a Portuguese family. The rooms are lovely, food is good and you get the place to yourself, mainly. The pool is heavenly and it is in a great location in the Algarve. Personally I would not want to spend my honeymoon in a hotel with lots of other people and I think this place would offer tranquility, romance and a good flavour of Portugal. Check out the websote for pics and info although it does not do it justice! And avoid the large resorts with their huge hotels and villas - artificial and not very Portuguese.

Pestana Alvor Praia Golf and Beach Resort - elegantly decorated hotel overlooks the Atlantic ocean and has terraced landscaped gardens and direct access via lift to the sandy beach below. It has a wide range of facilities including a Spa.
Private taxi transfers
honeymooners receive a bottle of sparkling wine and room upgrade ( subject to availability )

Vila Vita Parc Resort and Spa - one of the leading hotels in the world.
Housed within Moorish-style buildings the luxurious Vila Vita Parc is set among landscaped gardens with tropical plants and man made lakes. It also boosts an abundace of leisure and sports facilities as well as an impressive health spa
both these hotels are 5* and in great places in the Algarve.

Check out www.tripadvisor.com.
We stay at CPO in the resort, Club Praia Oura. It's a huge complex that goes right down to the beach. It's very close to The Strip and Albufuira town. Have a look on www.googleearth.com or Pletchey Travel. If you want to you can put your own package together, you'll have to pay the new tax. If you take a package, like MyTravel, there's no extra tax. The hotel has a great pool, gardens and restaurants all around it, within walking distance.

for a honeymoon may i recommend a villa rather than a hotel?
yes you get the service in a hotel but a villa gives you the privacy and relaxation you want on a honeymoon.
vale de lobo is a beautiful place with lovely villas most with private pools.
if you have your hearts set on a hotel then try the Le Meridien Penina at Portimao or the Tivoli Marinotel or Vilamoura Beach Hotel in Vilamoura.
all three of these are excellant hotels with 5 stars and great service.
i'd also avoid Albuferia as it's very touristy and not where i would want to spend my homeymoon (but each to their own!)

The Club Praia Oura, Albufuira. There are many places to eat in the resort at CPO or Albufuira town, which has just been refurbished. My Mum and Dad were there last year and loved the sandy beaches, the seafood restaurants on the beach and the curry shops, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and British eatery's. Check it out on line or go to www.tripadvisor.com to get the views of real travellers. Enjoy.

You could try looking at www.tripadvisor.com (or it might be .co.uk) a brilliant website giving candid traveller reviews on hotels. The hotels are listed by name or area and people who have actually stayed there rate them and sometimes add photos. We've used in quite a few times and have always had great holidays... Good luck and enjoy!
