Hanging up wet laundry to dry in the house is not very pretty, but the nurse at the maternity hospital said this is the best way to get moisture in the air. Less mold, no heat and you don't have to use any electricity to do it.

(-: Probably most people don't want underwear or towels hanging up in the living room, though. Either cool mist or steam vaporizer will get moisture into the air. I don't think it's an efficiency issue, but a health issue (cool mist can cause more molds to fly into the air), and possibly a utilities issue (steam takes more energy).

If you keep the cool mist clean, though, you will have no problems with it. That's what we've preferred. The steam one was too dangerous to have around our kids (but they've improved in the last few years, I've heard).
