As noted above, anything you could use a normal computer for.
The added benefit is mobility, meaning you can now buy shares over wireless on the toilet, Watch a DVD on the train to work, or whatever you want to do, wherever you want to do it.

Notebook computers can do anything a desktop computer can do. You usually pay a bit more for the same system since you are paying for the technology to provide it in a smaller package. My laptop goes from work, to home, to school. It does not have quite enough graphic ability for the latest role-playing games, but I could have gotten a better graphics package just chose not to.

Same thing you can use a desktop computer for except a notebook computer comes with a 3-ring binder for 100-500 sheets of paper.
