As a certified professional nanny, I would read to my charge every single day. I started reading to her when she was a baby, so books were always something she looked forward to. It was bonding time because she would sit in my lap. As she got older and started learning words, I would point to the pictures and ask her what they were, and she would answer. Then when she was a little older, I would have her tell me the story by looking at the pictures. She's a book lover now!

Provide them with good and fascinating books. Sit with them and dialogue on what they have read. If the children are between 6-9 years, it is good that you read for them. Teaching with your own example too is very good. When children see adults taking time to read they too begin to take an interest.

i am a teen, and i love to read. the reason i love to read so much is that when i was a little child, my grandparents and parents would read to me all the time and tell me fascinating stories. they encouraged me from the beginning. i dont think that restricting children completely from viewing tv is the right answer because that might cause rebellion in them, but instead just ENCOURAGE them to read by setting a positive example for them by reading a lot yourself. also, if the child has problems with reading then don't punish them for it, but try to help them in the positive manner possible. don't let them give up, but don't push them too hard either.

there's jail time or commercialization with sex violence and thrilling claptrap horror. or pay good teachers a decent living to instill the true values of reading for intellectual satisfaction and stress the importance of being knowledgeable rather than voting for corrupt politicians that prefer to lie to the public lacing their pockets and waging wars for no good reason. Ever elect any one without them being rich what you wasted your vote again and again and again and again expecting new results ? Isn't it just insanity!
