I hate it simply because everyone thinks they should show their love for their partners on this day, because some marketing genius makes us feel guilty if we don't.

I show my girlfriend all year round that I appreciate her and I definitely don't need a date in a calendar to make me do it.

It's one of the best money making scams ever.

I think it's a sweet idea, that's just been monopolised by the commercial industry, where you just have tonnes of companies trying to sell you cheap tacky crap, that's impersonal, sickness inducing and way out of control.

I firmly believe that you should cheerish those you love everyday - boyf, friends, family, everyone and anyone! But I do think it's good to reserve at least one day a year to show those you love, how much you appreciate them.

When I was single I used to hate being single on Valentines and seeing all those guys hoisting huge bunches of flowers under their arms used to make me feel so sad and lonely. So I used to stay in and have a houseparty on Valentines for all my single friends (male and female) and we'd spend the night just eating, drinking, chatting and appreciating each others company.

Now I've got a boyf, we can't be bothered about it. It's just far too tacky and disgusting, plus his birthday is two day's later!

I see a guy walking past with a crazy amount of gifts and wonder why the obsession with all that tacky crap? A guy only buy's you a pointless gift if he feels guilty about something. What is this, one present for each affiair?

I don't live with my boyf, so we try and reserve atleast one day of each week to make the most of being together and having each other. And you can and should show your loved one how much you love them everyday with out having to spend a fortune or buy a sickness inducing gift or card - It can be seen in your thoughtfulness even if you don't say it.

For me, Valentine's Day is like a birthday. Given the terrorist attacks, freak accidents, natural calamities that seem to be striking every corner of earth, every day you and your loved ones live should be a reason to celebrate. But we get so caught up in our daily routines that there's no time. That's why you do something special and out of the ordinary on the day you were born. Your friends & family may think of u at other times, bt may not be able to get in touch for whtever reason, but at least on ur bday, they'll call or meet u and let u know wht u mean to them...Happy Birthday is just another way of saying, glad ur alive & well and in my life!!!

Same thing applies for Valentine's Day. Its one day in a year where we remember to say I Love You to those who matter. Everyone needs to hear those words.

Wht I find silly is the all superficial commercial hype that surrounds it, bt not the meaning of the day itself.

Yes, the way you phrased it, it is silly. But, I love silliness so I am carrying on as usual! I think it can be as big or small a deal as people wish to make it.
I have no love in my life this year, but has been my custom for some time, alone or not, I always give sweets to two elderly ladies whom I have known for many years. They love it, and I like sharing a bit of joy. Life is otherwise far too short!

I don't see the point of it either, I've told every girlfriend that I've been out with that I don't like it, which they accept, as even they can't understand it. I mean, why is it important to make a fuss of your beloved on that one day when there are 364 other days in the year to tell your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend that you love them! If you ask me, valentines day is just a waste of time and money!

I think it depends if you are in a relationship or not. If not, no big deal, if you are, then all sorts of questions arise. I think the card companies and others hit on something just to make you spend more money.

Its just a day to make people think of why someone is special to them. I disagree, I dont think its silly because it probably saved alot of marriages.

Yes i do. If you cant be loving and romantic the rest of the year whats the point of doing it on one day just because its valentines day ?

It's a cheap, tacky gimmick - just another excuse to make money. Love should be something you show all year, not just on a particular day.
