Politicians say a lot, but do little for the people. They've embraced Western commercialism with a great zeal, but it is still the rich and powerful that control everything, and the "little people" suffer.
Ukrainians are proud people, and tend to view Americans as "idiots", or "dullards"... which is helped greatly by their most popular comedian (who has since been banned from obtaining visa's to the US).
Ukrainians are extremely honest with small amounts of money, but will gladly relieve someone of a million dollars when they are not looking. The people tend to value children highly, ensure a safe environment for children, and will always do things like let a child sit on their lap in the bus, or give up a seat for a child in the metro.
Food is fresh, and flavorful. Once you eat a Ukrainian tomato, you will never enjoy an American tomato again. Salo and sunflowers are a source of pride.
Ukrainians seldom eat in restaraunts, preferring to eat a home cooked meal at home with their family. Parents usually do not eat with the children.
Women are viewed as "property" by men, and it is common for abusive men to be largely ignored by the authorities... "it is his right to beat her, she is his wife". Men often have lovers, and their wives often tolerate it so as to not lose their man (especially if he is rich and supports her well).
Ukrainians tend to be viewed as "rude" or "unfriendly", but in fact they are exceptionally friendly. Americans do not understand their mannerisms, and their direct approach to converstation, and hence we view them negatively... much the same reasons the rest of the world views all Americans as "rich and rude".
The country is beautiful, the culture is rich, and you won't find a Ukrainian who does not know their history. Education can be very good, but it is easy for children to decide not to learn - their mothers or sisters will often do their hometasks for them, so as not to embarrass the family (read family as "mother and sisters").
The women know how to be women, and dress as women (sexy). They know how to treat a man well, out of necessity to get a "good" man. The women are exceptionally intelligent, and tend to run the house and family well. They are very tolerant of their husbands.
Men tend to drink a lot. Women tend to drink a lot with their men, mostly as a way to keep him from drinking so much ("if I drink 1/2 the vodka, there is only 1/2 left for him).
I could go on, and on, and on.

Geographically, Kiev rests at the hub of Europe and is an entirely different world but now you can it better if you begin from with hotelbye . Kiev may be the capital of Ukraine and is probably the most beautiful town of all of the post soviet countries. It is a city of all you least expect. Kiev is a historical town wherever old matches new and east matches west. One of many things you can see in Kiev may be the St. Cyrill's Monastery. That monastery was entirely off-the-beaten track. This small church is really as old as time, dating back again to 12th century. Paintings of the famous Mikhail Vrubel get you right into a different world. And the fact the Monastery is far from the key tourist web sites in Kyiv can make the ability much more humbling and inspirational.

My impression?
Onion domes and lots of canals and rivers and arched passageways beside cobbled roads. Agriculture in the driving snow and radioactive cows giving poisoned milk. Tanks rolling through on the way to where decisions must be made. History shadowed by political ignorance. A stab at greatness centuries ago, then a long slide into ruin.
I have met wonderful Ukrainians, but they were not in the Ukraine.

flow to Lviv/Lemberg, that is alluring, comparable to Crakow. evening trains (from/to Kiev) are large and espresso-cost in Ukraine, you pay like 10 eurocent for a warm tea:-) basically an theory... In Tunisia the climate may well be probable lots greater alluring, however the folk, i dont be attentive to, I dont think of you may discover a date there... (336 pounds are very high priced for a kiev flight, verify a ukrainian provider like aerosvit. it would nicely be a maximum of 200 euro return.)

Very little, the country was for so long behind the iron curtain that the facts about it have not come out. The very few people I have met from there seem nice, but really I do not know all that much about it.
