my ex boyfriend has dragged me through the mud for the past 4 months, taking me to court trying to claim i am his commonlaw wife....now....he's wanting me to settle with him....we own a house that right now has $28K of equity in it, a $7K prepayment penalty until August.....he has fraudulently filed a joint tax return without my knowledge, using me and my son's SS#'s, he married and divorced his ex wife in 2005 during the time that he's claiming to be my husband....and he wants me to settle....his attorney will give me $3K, he takes all his own debt and pays his own attorney's fees and he will sign a document that we were never married......
the nerve of some people to drag you through the dirt and then want to settle under those circumstances....

He is fraudulent person. Do not agree with him. He will not be interested in your wellfare. If you ever go in court, record your statement which is supported by facts. if otherwise you will cut a sorry figure.

Well, I really don't see a question in there .. But, if you are asking if you should settle or not, I would say yes ... and get as far away from him as you can. The reason some people do this, is because they can ..... sad but true.... lowlife way out, but man out there that do things that way..... My first suggestion though is to consult a lawyer. It may cost you a little up front, but just get some legal advice, versus only advise in here.

Sounds like a greedy person to me. I bet you can see dollars signs in his eyes. But 4 months of being together and already had a place. That a lil too fast in my book. Don't matter how many years or months you knew the person before hand. You will see their true colors when you are the one with them.
How did he get you and your son ss# anyway ? I will never let anyone know my number. Not even my husband know my ss#.

Here's hoping you already have a lawyer. If you can prove that he truly was married and divorced during the time that he's claiming to be commonlaw married to you, you can and should report it, to your lawyer AND to the IRS!

Anyway, your ex is a low-life piece of dog crap, with feathers and buttons and sequins all intertwined in it. I feel for ya, hon. Hope you make it through this okay. And feel free to laugh at my post!

I don't get it. What is your question?

One point though - if he fraudulently filed income taxes, then that is a felony. You may want to talk to a tax attorney.

As far as claiminng you are his common law wife, he can only do that if you "held yourself as a married couple." For instance, on your mortgage note or deed you signed it as "husband and wife."

Other than that, there is nothing to say you were married.

well...first of all if he married and divorced someone else in 2005 then there is no way that you can be considered huband and wife through common law...get a lawyer....you will probably have to sell the house and split the proceeds....good luck

This is extremely bizarre, but I do think she is trying to arrange to get you back together and married, and I am guessing from the context that this family is of a different nationality than you. It may be perfectly acceptable to have "arranged" marriages in that nationality, so it may not seem bizarre to her to shove her oar in. But this is certainly telling you something about the kind of relationship you would have w the in-laws, even if everything had worked out w the BF the first time around - as in, they don't see boundaries the same way that you do. Doesn't this whole process make you feel like a cow or a goat, anyway?
