To be famous is to be rare.
In Journalism the person who doesn't fit the profile sells more papers. A Catholic priest convicted of a sex crime will be front page, a priest in a story helping the homeless will be somewhere near the back. Rags to riches stories always sell more, because they give the simpleton hope. You only think there is so many famous dropouts because you aren't comparing them to those who didn't.

There are many more famous people who are not dropouts--it's just that being a dropout is an interesting factoid to mention in a biography. Dropping out is not necessarily a good way to become famous.

There are about half as many people who are Presidents of Companies who graduated from high school, as there are Presidents of companies who graduated with a PhD.

Does that mean that high school is almost as good as a PhD?

No. Not at all. Because there are more than 100 times as many HS grads as there are PhD grads.

In other words, it IS possible to be a success without college, but you are 200 times more likely to be a success if you are fully educated.

I think its because dropouts educate themselves with subjects they enjoy and gain a different understanding of the world, instead of been told what you need to know you should be able to choose what you want to learn
