I have to buy a new desktop. And I was just wondering whether to get an XP Home or Vista Home Premium for the OS. I heard that Vista isn't stable yet. Any suggestions?

Depends on which computer you get. Most decent computers will automatically come with Vista loaded. I still prefer XP because Vista is going to be a big jump. XP will still be around for along time. There isn't a lot of software capable of exploited all Vista yet. Get XP if you can swing it. If you are getting a high end computer with HD technology. Definitely go with the Vista.

Vista is very stable. Don't let that be the deciding factor.

I have Vista in my Toshiba notebook and it's awesome. Displaying graphics and the functions are just impressive. Best of all, it's security features are very tight. It will ask your permission to allow certain program to run.

But I will say XP right now as I'm struggling with multimedia softwares with Vista. I can't use certain software that only compatible to Vista. Although it will pop-up and say 'Check for online solution in the internet', it will not give anymore response if it's not compatible.

Not to say that Vista is not stable but at this moment, not all softwares created to suit Vista right now. If you are just a normal end-user, I will say Vista. But you are into animation or others, I will say XP and wait till other big software companies launch out softwares compatible with Vista.

Anyway, it depends on your decision and i'm sure you did alot of research on Vista and XP. Good luck!

Vista has to have perfectly compatible HARDWARE to match the software. Very little hardware is compatible right now so systems WILL crash. I have already read of several people wanting to remove Vista and go back to XP.

Like the first answer said, leave Vista for now and go with XP.

I will highly recommend to get windows xp professional with service pack 2. Vista is still unstable and a flaw has been discovered, Microsoft has approve this that vista itself delete the files.

i think XP,beacuse Vista has just came out and maybe it may not be sorted exactly, and if something happens which you cant deal with by yourself it would be really hard for you,but almost everyone knows XP detailly..

Linux operating systems are excellent. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at

You will also get all the software, that you will ever need, FREE - See
