Just spending money (not accommodation or travel) I would allow $100-$150 a day.
That should cover food and any activities you may attend.

Some days will be cheaper than others, you wont go to a major theme park every day!
If your able, it is always better to take more than less.

seeing that it really does depend where you go, here in Texas where i stay its a city called Galveston Island we attract millions of tourist in the summer so the hotel rooms are $150 - $200 in the summer but that's the peak season. in the winter the rooms go for @ $50 a night also the tax rate is different in other states Texas state tax is %6 and city is %9 so altogether its %15 a room in summer for on night is ($150) X %15 tax = 172.50 a night and $1207.5 a week that's with taxes then if your going out to eat (since there no other way really to cook) its about $10- $15 Per Person (kids are cheaper) and $5-$7 for the kid menu. so for 3 people 2 adults and 1 child you say 3 meals a day at $10 each person comes $25 a day and that not including tax and tipping the waitress oh and if you need a taxi (would be better to rent a car) also you might want extra spending money for shopping. I hope that helped some

It really depends on WHERE you are and WHAT you do.

For example, San Francisco is an expensive town to visit. The coas of Oregon is much less.

Admission to places such as Disneyland gets pricey, admission to national parks is not.

If you repost with some ideas of where/what, you can get a better answer.
