I like to wear pants (trousers) because they are generally more comfortable than skirts or dresses. It's easier to move around in pants, and in the winter, they are definitely warmer than skirts.
Some women wear pants because they just don't look good in skirts or dresses, and it makes them self-conscious. I would feel (and look) idiotic in a dress, so I choose to wear dress pants and pantsuits to work. If I feel comfortable, I can concentrate more on work rather than tugging on a skirt to make sure not too much is exposed.
Women used to wear dresses all the time, but society changes. Now that women are more in control of what THEY want, they are exercising their options.

A lot of women wear trousers for work because they are more practical, and let's face it, jeans are the ubiquitous choice for both genders for casual. I wear skirts when I want to look smart, for formal occasions like weddings and in the the summer when we get one I much prefer a floaty cotton skirt to a tight pair of jeans any day.

To stop other animals looking up our dresses of course and besides they look better than those baggy below the knee shorts that look like skirts you men wear

WOW!!!! i didn't even know that people said ''trousers'' anymore!!!!
and cuz they're comfy. and they let you move around, you can't play soccer wearing a skirt,
anyway i hate skirts. i can't cross my legs, run, jump, i can't even go out on windy days. skirts suck. although admitedly they can give an elegant look, of you go for traditional.

i for one love wearing skirts and dresses but then im not a woman i am a crossdresser... so maybe, just maybe women are wearing pants now so that we men can enjoy wearing the skirts
