A lady is getting upto INR 25 lakhs as alimony from her husband on getting divorced. She does not have any other source of income. Does she have to pay tax on this amount? If yes then how much will be the tax and under which section of IT act of India?

Oh yes he has to pay. If guys could take a "break" from child support and alimony just for being on paternity leave, just think about how many guys would be out of work claiming paternity leave. Judges and lawmakers know all the tricks guys and girls will use to get out of child support payments, so they do not go away for any reason. My suggestion is for him to keep paying and catch up the arrearage before they toss him in jail. And guess what? He will STILL have to pay.

I do not think so since it has already been taxed and is used for the community child as it is designated as child support. Just like it can not be a tax deduction either! Sorry, but that is just how it is.
Be very careful with who you have a child with-what you bite off today can come to bite you back in the future!
You can check with IRS or a lawyer.

Yes,she has to.It is consider as an earning.Ask your Income Tax authority to fine out.

I am not sure... She would need to ask the IRS. I would think she would have to though if it is more then 200 dollars a month.

alimony is taxable income---she'll have to report it!
