How do I get rid of it?

click any other place of desktop or ,press Ctrl+alt+delete to bring task manager ,select process and kill it

If your talking about the speaker icon at the bottom right of screen, then, with XP, Left click Start/Settings/Taskbar & Sart Menu/Customise. Find Volume, click on it, there will be a drop down menu. Select Always hide. OK/Apply/OK. Job done. It's easier than it sounds.

If it wasn't there before just right click to remove. Or reboot computer.

click around or refresh the desktop... but click around and it would eventually go away... this happens to me often ... lol

just click on the close button, or just try clicking exit or anything
