Why should we, as Londoners put up with this? Its as if we are living and working in a war-torn cold-era type city! Why hasn't TFL done anything to improve the commuter experience? It can't possibly be lack of funds, as the fares are already the most expensive in Europe! As if the overcrowding, constant delays and exhorbitant fares arent bad enough! Not a very nice picture we are presenting to our foreign guests for the 2012 Olympics is it?

I quite agree with you.

TFL are not the ones who dirty up their stations and make them disgusting. It's the people who use it.
Why blame the company? I bet you have seen people spitting and dropping rubbish in your time. Have you ever done anything about it? I bet you've even dropped the odd bit of litter yourself.

Perhaps it's your own attitude and those of people like you, that contributes to the state of things.
Also, If you're a Londoner than you should learn to write and spell in English not some mid-atlantic patois. It's Centre not Center and the TFL stations are on the Underground or Tube, not the Subway (that's for pedesrians).

The London Underground Network is suffering from decades of underinvestment. An early attempt by the Leader of the then GLC to try to revitalise London's transport links was halted by a combination of Bromley Council, Lord Denning and the Iron Lady, culminating on the break up of the GLC. The various parts of London Transport were then sold off to the private sector and run for the benefit of the shareholders, not the passengers.

That same leader is now Mayor of London and IS working on improving the network. I have definitely seen improvements on the Northern Line and other lines BUT decades of neglect cannot be solved overnight.

So, to answer your question, TFL are doing something to "improve the commuter experience". BTW I assume, from your use of "Center Point" and "subway" rather than Centrepoint and tube network, that you are not a Londoner by birth. As somebody who IS can I pass my thanks to Mayor Ken and his colleagues who are working so hard to make London a pleasant place in which to live and work.

Obviously the above people dont ever use Tottenham Court Road tube enough as there is actually a SUBWAY under Centre Point - and yes its used for pedestrians to cross under the road to get the the tube station! - How quick some people are to correct others when they dont even know their facts!

And yes I quite agree with you! We pay to use the tube so we should expect some kind of service level - including keeping the tube stations and surrounding areas clean and safe! I guess the rest of you just take what you get, no questions asked... How sad...

You all make me want to vomit in disgust! What the hell is wrong with you guys?!? London has one of the best transport systems in the world, i use it everyday and i think it's fantastic. Quit being stuck up and appreciate the London transport system for the wonderful creation and brilliant architecture that it is! Seriously you need to get lives and wake up to the fact that you are lucky enough to have the system and not be in a remote village in India starving! P.s about the Olympics, i don't want it here i only wanted to win it to wipe the smirk off the smarmy faces of the french....SCREW FOREIGNERS AND THERE OPINIONS.

I won't go down there... It's disgusting. And you would think that, with the fares hiked up as high as they are, that there'd be a bit of money left over for a couple of grand spent on each subway!

To be fair though, while you can pay to have messes cleaned up, you can't necessarily control where they're made, so the 'public-midden' look tends to hang around below ground!

Mind you, if places as far apart and as different as Paris and Sydney can keep their public transport systems running cheaply, to time, clean and pleasant, then why can't we...

And yes, the Olympics are going to show up a LOT of stuff that we Londoners have been putting up with for far too long - let's hope that the influx of foreign sport-tourists who have higher standards will get TFL et al to pull their fingers out!

I strongly agree with you guys about the condition for the underground. I'm from Singapore and will be here till October 2007. I have never been to any of the Europe countries so this is my first time coming to Uk London. I am really really very disappointed. I always thought the people here are more friendly and educated since the living standard here is higher than any of the Europe countries. One example, I was dragging 2 big luggages going to liverpool station. I asked for help from a guy to open up the glass gate to let me through and to my surprise he told me to open up the glass gate myself and I tolerate that. What anger me was he even told me to close up the stupid glass gate. Is this some kind of racism or is that the services from UK? I tell myself that I won't even recommend any of my friends to come here for hoildays. Try going to those eastern countries, you might feel the different approach by the people. So warm and friendly.
