To stop from doing haram things one may need : 1. Fear of Allah 2. Will power 3. Determination from the doer him/her self 4. Finding a Halal alternative 5. Avoiding being alone 6. Concentration on Religious matters 7. Reading Al-Qur'aan once you get an opportunity to do a haraam thing. 8. Saying Astaghfaar (seeking pardon with determination). 9. Praying 5 times a day, regularly, come what may. 10. Praying additional rakaaths of prayers, imploring, seeking help of Allah to get rid of a bad habit. In will power there is none in the world stronger than a Muslim. This is manifest from the month of Ramadhan. Almost 100% of haraam things and other smaller sins are stopped by every fasting Muslim for the full 30 days. Hence, fasting also prevents haraam doings. You cannot fast every day other than Ramadhan, but one day of the week (Monday as Sunnah) will also help to keep the crime rate low. First try to kill the strongest Haraam commitment, other habits will not need more efforts, then. Hope this will help

Apparently it was because he missed being able to go to watch his favourite team's football matches when he was doing the Saturday shows.( That's men for you). Glad he's gone, but now I must shield myself from randy Des O Connor (oh come on, anyone who has a kid at his age is a bit dodgy). Heard a rumour on here that Carol has signed on to take over as presenter from the end of this year anyway. Apparently she had too many commitments pencilled in to take over when Des (1) left and that's why Des (2) was drafted in to look after it for this season.

Cos he had too far to travel to the set, Des O'Connor is much much much better anyway, Des Lynam was so boring he near put me asleep watching it.

Jamand has it correct. He didnt like commuting to the North from the South.
And by the way Countdown is filmed in Leeds at the Yorkshire Television Studios on Kirkstall Road. I live in Leeds.

I don't really know, but much as DL was a gentleman, the show really needs a quick-witted presenter with a touch of comedy.
Des O'Connor is a great improvement.

Apparently he had an argument with Carol Vorderman as she was doing too many of those "consolidate your debt" adverts, when she (as an intelligent person) should know that you don't get out of debt by taking on more debt.
