If you are asking this question, then I must assume you are fairly new to aquarium keeping. Discus are quite delicate and fragile fish are really, really are not for any but the most experienced aquarium keepers.

I would strongly suggest you spend a few bucks on a good Discus book and a good basic aquarium book. Read through them fairly well then find a dedicated Discus website with a Q&A forum and ask all the questions you came up with from your reading there.

Short of doing this you are setting yourself up for a rather expensive heartbreak.

Look up fishless cycling on yahoo. It will show you how to properly cycle a tank. It can take as much as 8 weeks or as few as 2. You will need to buy pure ammonia (no surfacants) and a test kit for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Discus are very fragile and they probably won't survive if you don't cycle the tank first.
