He was the drummer for a band called Rory Storm And The Hurricanes. He was touring in Hamburg with them at the same time as The Beatles, and they took him on as their drummer when Pete Best quit.

he started his own group with Eddie Miles called The Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group. He then joined The Raving Texans in 1959
