It has a good variety of food and reasonably low prices. Ideal for those who wants to have a taste of all types of different food.
Quality-wise also vary widely. Honestly some are really good, while others are just no better than junk food.

You have to be in the right mood to eat out like this. The food may be less expensive but the quality and quantity may be disappointing. If you are a back-packer or if you are just having fun and gaining world experience, then do try the hawkers centers.
Singapore has changed dramatically in the past 10 years and what was once a pristine, tourist paradise is now just another Asian destination.
Ten or more years ago I was in awe of Singapore. It was a 'fine' city, better than just about any other place I had visited. Now, it seems that the rules have been tossed into the garbage bin and Singapore is no better than Beijing, Hong Kong or Shanghai. Very sad indeed!!!
PS You may want to try the restaurants in Purvis Street, Singapore. They are pretty cool.

There are good and cheap food in Hawker Centers and it is wide variety of tasty foods out there and You can enjoy the foods from the root of all over the world.

Hmmm... SIngapore hawkers center are not those you see from Malaysia, indonesia or thailand or else where... It is non smoking area and also clean and lots of food to choose....
Chinese, malay and indian, japanese, korean, american food al you can find in hawkers center....
Try food republic in singapore.. it is the best...;p
