so they took a hostage in the 70s and then gave him back? was he harmed?
you may find people in england or france burning flags and shouting profanites about america but this is no reason to class another country on the other side of the world an enemy
is iran a threat to america or do they just want to be left alone?
if they do then i hope the iranian leader comes out soon and explains they want to be left alone,
are they part of "the axis of evil"? why?

Back in the fifties when BP (British Petroleum) was running the oil buisness in iran, they were only giving the iranians about 10% of the oil revenues so the democratically elected prime minister (Mohammed Mossadeq) thought that since it was their oil, they were entitled to a bigger share.
BP and the UK government were obviously happy with the status quo so when the Iranian government nationalised the oil, UK set up an Embago ("sanctions") on Iran and the Iranians kicked out BP. The UK was obviously not the mighty empire it once was so they asked help from the americans and the CIA started blowing things up in Iran using "communist" agents, agitating riots and fire-bombing the religious and political leaders.
This resulted in the first sucessful "regime change" by the CIA and they installed their own brutal dictator (The Shah of Iran) to keep control. After 26 years of brutality, the Shah administration (a US backed iranian dictatorship) was kicked out during the "iranian revolution".
This is when the US started supporting neighbouring secular Baath party dictators like Saddam Hussain to do their dirty work.
Ironically, after israel felt threatened by a very prosperous Iraqi economy and military in the 80's, the US decided to take direct control and bombed and later invaded Iraq.
PS The current iraqi government recently signed an agreement to give US oil companies 75% of their oil revenues for the next 30 years.

I believe it goes back to the 1970's when Iran had its religious revolution. The Ex leader was western backed, but I believe the US embassy was stormed and US citizens were held hostage for (a year?) ages.
The revolutionaries also found incriminating documents about the US against the revolution - so to be fair the feeling is mutual - its not just one way!
Weirdly I've read somewhere that Iranian citizens are some of the most pro US in the region - probably refers to the younger generation!

Officially, support destructive trouble makers in Iraq,
but actually, speak with conviction & assertively about how oil prices should go up with lower oil supply levels in OPEC.
Iran also stands in Saudi Arabia's way in the fight to be the most influencial country in the muslim world - and we all know how close the Bush family are to the Saudis (see Fahrenheit 9/11).
The situation now is probably one that they HAVE TO strike a NATO-style agreement with Russia, China, France, India or Pakistan (countries with significant nuclear weapons) soon or else the US will bomb them & thus stop them from developing their own nuclear weapons. The (Bush) US govt is out to get Iran.

Iran is one of the most powerful enemies of Israel. Hence the very powerful Jewish lobby in the US is rallied and Iran is presented as an enemy of the US. When the body bags come home from the Middle East, the families must believe that this is to keep the United States safe and free, not merely to fight Israel's war and make Dick Cheney another billion.

Aren't you aware that the Iranian government is giving arms to Hezbollah and to the insurgents in Iraq? Russian made, Chinese made, Korean made sophisticated arms! Iran has many of its operatives in Iraq to help foul up the works for the USA. I do not believe that we will ever make Iraq into a democracy. They wouldn't know what to do with it and Bush and his people miscalculated miserably about this possibility. Iran is interfering with Iraq and also threatened to blow Israel (our only democratic and honest ally in the middle east) off the face of the earth and they made threats against us as well. Iran is our enemy by their own admission. What more proof do you want?

Iran has done nothing except have the reaction anyone would expect. America meddled in their affairs over 50 years ago. How long did americans hate the English after we tossed them out of USA? Maybe if the mainstream media would ask the eternal question of CAUSE AND EFFECT then we would have the truth revealed to us.

1) they actually pass laws saying they want the destruction of
Isael, Great Britian, United States.
2)They end every session of their congress with the
chant "Death to America. Death to israel Death to America."
What if our congress did that in the U.S.A. We would be
considered nuts.
3) the leaders including the president have said that Israel should
be wiped off the map. Which their maps do not have Israel on
them. What if our government just said Mexico doesn't exist.
it is no longer on our maps.
4) Think of what Hitler would have been like with nuclear bombs.
