Individuals, they are all franchised outlets. The intellectual rights are own by the McDonald Company which comprises of shareholders all with a say in the running.

The company is owned by shareholders. Individual stores are owned by the company or by franchisees (as I understand it lots of franchisees in USA, not very many in UK... i don't know about anywhere else)

most are franchises owned be individuals, the big guys make their money when people buy a franchise, which are not cheap, 150-350k depending on location (allegedly)
