Anyone knows Myst?

Question

Has anyone ever played the game Myst?I think it is the second one.

I am right at the beginning, but I cant figure out what to do. I have collected all the books..what now?I went down 2 elevators and I am stuck at the bottom where I got this secret ladder and it leads to another room, but I cant get anywhere else. What now? Please help??

this is a great series! I recommend playing all of them but that's what I did. (revelation and the first are the best in my opinion)

Anyway that has NOTHING to do with your question. I don't really remember any elevators in Riven but, if you say you're at the beginning and there's a secret ladder then I must guess that you are still at the first puzzle, The Gate Room. go from where you are to the other entrance. there is a button here. I think it's on your right side but not 100% sure. push this button 1 more time now go back around to the hidden ladder. you should be able to enter through here now and go to the other doorway. there is a switch in there that will raise a grate. (the other switch powers something you need much later in the game) from where you are right now, look to the side and you'll see another rotational button. (in the same room with the switch) push the rotational button twice. now go across to the new cubby and throw the switch to raise the gate (you can't go anyfarther down this walkway now) but stay there and find the rotational button and hit it 2 more times, go through the other door (you should now be back in the first place you rotated the room from.) rotate the room 2 more times and you can actually get somewhere now.

My best answer is this to go to gamefaqs.com look for a Myst walkthru guide and print it off becuase this is just the start and there are many many more puzzles more difficult to solve before the end. Just use the walkthru to help with the puzzles you can;t solve.

We played it when it first came out. It was so ahead of its time... or of our time.... our computers, anyway. We played it on my father's computer, but it used up so incredibly much memory, it would always crash the computer. Eventually, we gave up and lost interest. I haven't tried playing it since then. I remember it being a really neat idea. I'd love to try it again.
