50 men complete work in 20 days
so, 50x20 = 1000 men-days
If 10 mens left after 5 days work,
so, 50x5=250 men-days already done
1000 = 250 + 40 men x n days
40n = 750
n = 18.75 days
18.75 days more to complete work
Total days to complete work
= 5 + 18.75 = 23.75 days

Let x = remaining number of days to complete work.
Total work = (50 men)(20 days) = 1000 man days
50*5 + (50 - 10)x = 1000
250 + 40x = 1000
40x = 750
x = 750/40 = 75/4 = 18.75 additional days

We know that,
50 men complete the work in 20 days.
Quantum of work completed in 5 days = 25%
Work balance = 75%
40 men will complete the balance work in = 50 x 20 x 0.75/40
= 18.75 days
ANSWER : Thus, 40 men will take (18.75 - 15) = 3.75 more days

let the whole work be 1!
then , the ability of one worker a day is 1/20/50=1/1000
for 5 days , 50 workers worked and the work done is 1/1000*50*5=1/4 of the whole work
so the work left is 3/4!
and to finish the work with 40 men , it takes (3/4)/(40*1/1000)=
=(3/4)/(1/25)=75/4 days
75/4=18.75
so 19 days will take to complete the work

First five days finished work = 50 x 5 = 250 days

After 5 days.......50 men would had completed in 15 days
i.e. 1 man would had completed in 15*50=750 days.....
But 10 men left,so rest 40 men can complete rest work in (750/40)=75/4 days.......;-)
