I used to like entering short story competions when I was in primary school, but now I don't really hear about them anymore.
Maybe you should try looking it up on google? I'm pretty sure you could find one or two in your area.
Sorry I can't really be any help.

I felt the same as you at your age, and I still feel that way...so what I would say is do whatever you have to do to make that dream come true. Read alot, write a little every day, read books about writing, learn good grammer & spelling.
I had poems published when I was a teenager, it was through the church magazine. That is a good way to get published, through kids' magazines. Don't get discouraged if you get rejections, even Stephen King did.
Write on!!!
Oh, and stay away from "contests" that want you to pay Them first.

first of all good luck! i am also trying to write a book and i had a wonderful idea i was developing for half a year. But it became a 3book series, and i would need to finish the whole series before sending it in because ive never been published before. 9 years have passed, you're 23 now. How did things turn out?
For future aspiring writers, what I'd recommend in answer to this question is this. Read Writer's Market.

nice to read about your resolve to pursue your passion. continue and focus on it. tips? just read widely but keep away from complex readers that may dampen your spirit. read teenage texts and share your writing with others to read and to comment on. you may notice something you overlooked. and once you write, you want to be read, so do not let critical comments dampen your resolve. you may be one day our Dickens, Eliot Austen etc. keep on the hope.
