Of course it is skill, you need to train a lot to become a good soccer player.
It is about the skill to handle the ball, not just with your feet, your entire body must fit to the movements.
Then, it does not say that you will become a good penalty shooter.
You need to overcome the stress in a penalty situation.
All people think it is the most easiest thing to sink the ball into the net, just from 11m away, no other is disturbing you.
Well, you are not alone, there is the goal keeper, your jumping heart and the audience!
So you are absolutely not alone!
You need a strong will and you need to stay calm!
It is not easy to stay calm, but that makes you to a good penalty shooter, once you are secure with the ball.
And do not give the keeper a chance to see in which corner you want to kick the ball to.
Don´t make the mistake to show him with your eyes and how you move your body while approaching the ball.
Also train many alternatives, do not shoot always to the same corner and elevation.
The keepers will record your preferences and will use it to their advantage.

So, have fun and train, train, train......

greetings from Germany
Joerg

p.s. There is only one kind of luck in soccer!
If you play against a team or player which/who is
incompetent.
Your luck is the others´ incompetence.
Or you are just better!

They must have the skill to score a goal from the penalty but it had a luck too because the player doesn't know where the keeper is going to jump !

As European and former soccer player I can tell you that it´s mainly skill, that´s necessary to score the goal.
Luck´s required on the goalkeeper´s side... choose the right corner... but a well kicked penalty is unstoppable

Part skill, part chance. On one hand, a player must have the ability to strike the ball where they need to strike it...But then on the other hand, they must also have the 50% chance that the keeper will NOT save it.

Then of course there is the 50% chance that the keeper WILL save it...Where is your skill taking you now?

You must have both the skill and the chance (in the kicker's favor) to be successful in a penalty kick goal.

Composure plays a big part for the penalty takers. Because even though it's kinda easier for their situation to make the goal, sometimes, they mess up BIG time! Look at Roberto Baggio's case during USA '94. However, for the part of the keeper, I think luck plays its part. But another part would be credited to the keepers anticipation and ability to read the mind of the penalty taker. However, these elements aren't very concrete and palpable, so I'll still stick to the major influence of luck for the part of the keepers.

a PK dependes on the kickers skill versus the Keepers. If a shooter is both skilled AND really lucky , well from a keepers point of veiw your doomed. The one who really needs luck is the keeper.

The scorer needs skill to beat a goalkeeper who can guess the right way.. the scorer must be very deceptive, accurate and uncompromising. The keeper is the one who needs luck more. If he guesses right, then his skill will come to the test...he must find a way to stop the ball. Equally great feats anyway.

realistically, the goal has a wide surface area thus the keeper cant successfully stop the ball.it therefore summarises into the fact that it is a classic combination of skill and luck.

Its 50% luck, 50% skill. It all depends on how much you can bend the ball and psych out the goalie on what direction the balls going.

the player kicking the corner gets the goal unless the defender clearly changed the path of the ball.
