Immigration means moving to a new location
either moving to a new country, or city,state etc...
Immigration is moving in.
Emigration is moving out..

I know 'migration' is to move to another country, not sure what the 'immi' part means but overall it basically means to emigrate (move) to another country. I think immi means from inside the country itself.

ere is the etymology: Etymology: Latin immigratus, past participle of immigrare to remove, go in, from in- + migrare to migrate
The root word is migrate... like what some northern birds do in the winter. They remove themselves or go to a warmer climate..
Therefore, in+migrate, means "to remove" or to go into another place.
