There are books on this. Find a book with good reviews, buy it, and get to work. This kind of book wouldn't get a good review if it didn't get someone a job.

try a microsoft office template for the field that you are interested in and match it up with an excellent cover letter......also available at the same link. this is what i like to see when i get resumes into my store ( i manage a womens retail clothing store) also doesnt hurt to do some light research on the company so you can sound like you know what your talking about if its a new field for you to be applying for just make sure you dont say anything you cant backup

Make your resume presentable without any erasures.
Be sure that the spelling are correct.
Be sure that all the entries in your resume is true.
Make your resume short but precise.
But most of all pray that the one who is reading your resume is open minded and kind.

Use a bunch of meaningless business jargon, like "detail-oriented" and "established competency." Recruiters love that crap.
