Check with your local children's librarian. They read and recommend books all the time, it's their job. They can help you with what is age appropriate. Some books are great, but hard to read aloud.

Whatever you choose, practice it a few times by yourself by reading it out loud. I know it sounds silly to read a book out loud to yourself, but it will really make a difference in how smoothly you can read it aloud to others.

Any good book store, and if you are looking to save money check out a book exchange, most places for book exchange are far more particular about the children's books they accept so that you can find nice quality books at lower prices.

You need to be more specific: for what age group?

Toddlers: look for something with bright, colorful, simple pictures. It doesnt have to have a great story line. "Pat the Bunny" is great, as is "Goodnight Moon".

Preschool: Books by Eric Carle (The Hungry Caterpillar), or Rosemary Wells (the Max and Ruby series, the McDuff books), to name a couple.
Also anything by Dr. Seuss.

Older children: The Amelia Bedelia books. Anything by Beverly Cleary, Roald Dahl...
