They are very dangerous spiders. I'm not sure if they can harm you unless they but you....but you need to find out!

Brown recluses are everywhere. Many people commonly mistake them for the common brown house spider. I am a paramedic and one of the specialties that I teach is toxins. We have a lot of them around North Carolina. They typically like to live in dark, dry, warm places. Many people are often bitten on the toes or fingers. Gloves that you put up from season to season. They get in the fingers. Shoes that you haven't worn in a while. They are pretty non-aggressive. They don't like to be bothered, that's why they hide out. Many people who are bitten by the brown recluse do not even know that they have been bitten. They may not even feel a pinch. Days later, the area will become very white in the center and usually very red around it. It may or may not itch. You should immediately go to the doctor. There is not like an antivenom or anything, but they will clean it, give you a tetanus shot and IV antibiotics. The bite will not usually cause sickness like the black widow. The black widow will cause nausea, vomiting, paralysis, etc. The recluse will literally cause the skin to rot. Many times, the skin should be scraped. It is a pretty nasty little bite. Usually the really old and really young should be greatly concerned,

It's rare that you see a recluse of any kind. This is why they had been given the name "Recluse". A recluse can be found almost anywhere where there is warmth. They oftentimes will hide out where there is a lot of brown very similar to their colour. They also will hide out in places that you are not likely to think they will and they will stay in these places for the longest periods of time.

I know to see one of them is the most eeriest and creepiest things. It will leave you skin crawling for hours afterwards.

Where you find one, there is usually at least another. Regular insect sprays do not work on arachnids, you need a specific spray for them. These spiders are highly venomous and their bite destroys tissue. If bitten, go to the emergency room, bringing the body of the spider if possible for identification. An antibiotic needs to be administered as soon as possible. They have a nasty habit of hiding in inconvenient (for humans) places; dresser drawers in layers of clothing, behind and around furniture, anyplace dark and warm.

I've always heard that they like dark places. i hate spiders too. I think a lot of people do. but i recently talked to a man who worked for a pesticide facility and he said spiders only feed off of other insects, and that if you got rid of all the insects in your house their would be no more spiders. i sure didn't know that. Another thing i do every month is spray poison like spectracide around my baseboards and in the corners of my closets and cabinets. i also put out sevin dust around my porchs and outside of house. I would also be weary of clothes, boxes and stuff you might have packed up. Be sure and vacum every other day especially in corners and under stuff... I Hope YOU Don't See Anymore
Good Luck from a spider hater too

Ewww I know how you feel!!! I live in Australia and we have these huge brown spiders called Huntsmans!!! In the summer we get a heap of them in our house and every night when we go into our rooms we have to check on the walls up near the roof to see if there are any lurking. Luckily for me Huntsmans aren't posionous and are generally not aggressive and don't live together, so you only ever get one. But still they are big, brown scary sons of b**ches!!

I hate spiders I can't even look at them let alone kill one and then pick it up, I can't even look at a pic of a spider without screaming and almost crying. It's a phobia!!!! So you are extremlly brave in my opinion!!! Well Done!!!

A real brown recluse is very poisonous; you need to spray your entire house especially around you beds, closets curtains and behind the furniture. If you get bitten seek medical attention immediately. One of my friends was bitten by one he waited till the next morning to go to the hospital; he waited to long they had to take his leg off at the knee he was bitten on the foot.

What's your question? I'm in southwestern Missouri and we have LOTS of the little buggers.

They like dark warm places, I find them here in the attic all the time. Also the woodpile. They are dangerous, but the biggest danger is that most people that are bitten don't even know it. Keep your eye out, if you see any more you should probably have an exterminator come out and spray.
