Before 9/11, I had a fear of flying because it seems unnatural for humans to be that high and I feared falling out of the sky! Not to mention that I am a control freak and I would have zero control of what the plane would do.

Now, being a 9/11 survivor, I fear airplanes for obvious reasons.

I still fly all the time with the help of tranquilizers and some booze! LOL

Hope this helps!

Being someone with this fear, I can shed some light. I think the lack of control issue is one thing. However, it's also the fact that while yes statistically I have a greater chance of dying in a car on the way to the airport then actually dying in a plane crash, in car I do have a better chance of surviving if there's a wreck in a plane (most of the time) everybody dies. Fears are illogical for the most part but, I'm sure everyone's afraid of something.

Kris has the correct answer. Theres no place to go, but down in a plane crash, and one has control of the situation no matter how safe or dangerous. I`d rather be in a car where I have a chance to swerve or slam on the brakes when faced with an accident. Secondly, so many r killed in a plane crash, survival rate is almost zilch. But, thats only me, I hate planes. Others love to fly.

Because when people are in a plane thousands of miles from the ground they have no sense of control. They are helpless in a sense. This is the factor that people fear the most i think. Not the actual plane itself but the felling of absolutly no control.

Well, one reason is that new (or relatively new) experiences are often scary.

God bless.
