I have head lice and I was told by a friend to check down there in case. Because it is body lice, it will spread. Is my friend right?? Or don't I have to worry?

Head lice have legs with claws that grip and hold onto the hair shaft. They are dirty white or grayish in color. Head lice almost always occur on the head where they attach their eggs to the hair while body lice prefer to live in the seams and linings of unwashed clothing, blankets and sheets from which they periodically crawl onto the skin to feed.

Crab lice live only on the hairy portions of the body. Their legs are adapted to grasp hairs which are rather widely spaced, and for this reason, these lice prefer the pubic and perianal regions. However, they can be found in eyelashes, head and arm pit hair.

So to answer your question, it's possible to have head lice on the pubic area but unlikely because of the different shape/thickness of the hair shaft. You can shave if you like, but I definitely wouldn't use a harsh shampoo on pubic hair, you'll burn your tender labial skin, the skin on your scalp is much tougher. Check out natural remedies like neem oil, google "neem oil lice" and you'll get tons of info.

No pubic lice (Pediculosis pubis) are not the same as head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis). Pubic lice have grasping feet that only clamp onto coarse pubic hair. They do not grasp onto finer head hair, however have been known to grasp abdomen and underarm or even eyelashes (these are all relatively coarse). So don't worry, they're not likely to move up from your pubes to the penthouse suite of your hair.

Lice can live on ANY hair, even armpit hair. Contrary to popular
belief, lice actually like clean hair better. In the Air Force, a friend
of mine picked up lice from a prostitute. He thought whiskey
would kill them. Nope. They had a party and the next day it was
10x worse.
