Out of fairness, I'm not going to say "Americans." But I don't understand this! You only have to have a very basic idea of the U.S. penal system and just the slightest bit of common sense to realize that the death sentence is both unethical and ineffective.
The same thing with nukes. I swear to God, if my class has one more world events discussion where someone asks "Why don't we just nuke 'em?" I'm gonna end a life or two on the spot.

You are right absolutely! FYI, death sentence or capital punishment has been abolished in law and/or practice by 128 countries worldwide. During 2005, 2,148 people were executed including 94 in Iran, 86 in Saudi Arabia and 60 in the USA. Scientifically it has been found that capital punishment does not deter murder or other henious crimes to a greater extent than supposedly other lesser punishment like life imprisonment (ref. UN report 1988). What matters is the threath of punishment. The same concept applies to nukes - the threath of global destruction. Unfortunately there are now rogue countries and terrorist groups who have the capabilities of developing and using "dirty bombs" taking the concern for nuke deterrent and safety to new levels.

Think about it. Look at the way our kids behave, look at all the crime. If you make it a point, (eye for an eye), how many people would commit crimes? With all the technology, and getting people for the crimes they commit, why should they live. They knew it was wrong, so deal with it. you should have thought about it before you committed the crime. Besides, too much of my tax dollars are keeping these idiots in a prison; fed, clothed, watching tv, playing basketball, working out...c'mon. We are basically paying for them to live inspite of taking someone's life. If one kid had his hand cut off for stealing, seriously, how many other kids would steal????

I completely believe in the death penalty.... If I had control of this country I'd make Hitler look like a little school girl off to the playground.... but I wouldn't execute because of race or religion..... every murderer, baby raper and so forth would be executed.... no need for them in our society....... and if they were framed and innocent.... then the ones who framed them would be tortured then killed......
