If you believe in such an entity, how can you be sure of its existence? If you think that there is not such a being or principle or whatever, how can you probe it?

I think that it is a personal thing. I personally believe in God and jesus Christ. Anyone who says he does not exist is free in my opinon to think that way. Who am I to tell someone that what they think is wrong? I believe it becasue I read the bible and I believe what the bible says. Its a personal choice.

No one can actually prove that something that happened in the past actually happened. All we have is evidence for things that have happened in the past. Look at yourself in a mirror. Could you have created such a person as you all by yourself? Could you have actually come from nothing at all. I think that looking around at Creation is all the evidence a person needs to believe in God.

Either way, it's a matter of faith. Faith is more beautiful than knowledge. Faith defines who you are and carries on forever (even if your beliefs change, the fact that you once believed them is part of who you are). Knowledge is, paradoxically ephemeral... once you know something, it doesn't matter. Likewise, once something is fact, it can be proved wrong.

That being said, the whole God thing is a paradox. It's a matter of faith. If someone proves that God exists, then God would cease to exist, because God, as the creator of everything and therefore both within and beyond everything, can only exist if it IS, in fact, within and beyond everything (and therefore can't be explained or rationalized by any one thing). Like... if you find evidence that God exists, then God exists within the confines of the evidence, which is finite. Therefore, God ceases to be infinite.

That being said, I don't believe in God... but the same principle as believing in God applies.

As for anyone who KNOWS God exists (because how else was everything created?), well... what created God? Not that God doesn't exist... but if you're gonna use rational evidence to claim God exists (therefore God is inherently rational), then you can't just juxtapose it and accept God's origins to be irrational.

How can you not be sure? What or who could have been the origin of this great universe which started and developed and is sustained by simple never changing laws. How on earth could this just be something based on sheer chance?
No teaching about the beginning of the world can prove or make clear that the world could have begun "of itself".
The order of Creation is a forming, a shaping, that logically depends on a power through which the order has been accomplished. For the origin of this power there is only one Name: God.-
When contemplating the wonders of nature, from the minute structure of an atom to the huge celestial spheres moving in rhythm, an eternal order, which is perfect because it issues from the Perfection of the Divine Will, is revealed to us humans.
How was it possible that we can live on this earth when on all other planets surrounding us we cannot live?
The beauty of nature, just sheer chance? No, there were and are eternal laws in the working and this laws are the holy Will of GOD.
For us the Will of God can only be recognized in Creation, with it`s inflexible Laws. Even the sciences acknowledge the fact of these laws and their immutability, although they deny, refuse to know or exclude from their thinking the origin of these Laws. No one can deny that we harm ourselves by acting against the Laws of Nature. But these Laws are part of the language of GOD.

It is very simple. If you can exist and other countless unknown species can exist. God can also exist. Now, if you are prejudiced with God, you may say any thing. You see purpose every where, and purpose within purpose endlessly. You are born in within an on-going world. You don't know what was before, and what will be after you. This is enough to accept that God is Supreme and is doing all this, which is very big and beyond anyone's reach.

is it possible that a human being, from the orbits of planets round the sun to the cells in your fingernails could all have happened by chance? Surely, this enormously complex mechanism has been designed, and the being that designed it must be God.

The Universe is "God" on autopilot. There is no "human figurehead" that is God.

You can not use man or his writings to prove God so basically God is unprovable either way.

I prefer to believe that there is no God. Just the master intelligence of the universe.

It does not, because there is no need any longer for politicians to govern us in its name. Now they govern by fear (read Michael Crichton's "State of fear") and maybe Global Warming will become the god, or at least the creed, for the third millennium.

No one knows either way for sure.

And that is what is saving this mankind.... if we knew God is there, we would leave everything to God which would bring our downfall for sure. If we knew there is no God, we would be too arrogant and that will surely bring our downfall too.

In our own interest, let all of us partly believe in God and partly believe in ourselves!!

GOD IS OMNIPRESENT AND EACH ONE OF US POSSESS HIM. WE ARE JUST A MUNUTE SUBSET OF THE OVERALL DIVINE CONSCIOUNESS WHICH YOU MAY OR MAY NOT CALL GOD. FIND OUT WHETHER YOU EXIST ONLY FOR THIS MOMENT AND WERE NOT THERE IN PAST AND WILL NOT EXIST IN FUTURE. I AM SURE YOU WILL REALIZE THAT YOU ALWAYS EXISTED AND WILL EXIST FOR EVER THOUGH YOUR FORM MAY CHANGE
