I've had a small black moor goldfish for a month now though over this time it has become less and less active- and spends more time floating at the top of the tank, with trouble swimming downwards. After research I suspected this was swimbladder, though I have noticed when I do feel him, he has trouble even chewing the food- so he has hardly been recieving anything to begin with. As well, he has become very weak, inactive and constantly unresponsive to my hands- he will at times cease from this and become lively, but most times he is very eccentric from the norm.

I was curious if anyone had had a gold fish with similar symptoms, that of floating at the top, trouble chewing food, and balance, swimming troubles. I have yet to try to well recommended 'frozen pea' solution.

Thank you much for your help!

your fish could have swim bladder but there are a few other things that may not be helping, apparently high levels of nitrate in a tank can cause the fish to sit at the top and go off food, sometimes when these levels go down the fish returns to normal, Try feeding is lightly boiled deskinned and mushed peas, You may have to do this by hand if it is too weak to feed. your fish is not showing the worst scenario of swim bladder yet so there may be hope, go to this site, It has everything you need to know about swim bladder and can give you suggestions to help your fish. www.kotosgoldfish.com/disease I personally would suggest a water change with a dechloriniser, and add some bacteria supplement (nutrafin cycle is good) these help break down the toxins in your water. another thing apparently is that these fish do not actually see very well, so they can take time finding their food, They like a varied diet, peas, spinach lettuce and blood Worms (frozen dried are better) These fish also can suffer from internal bacterias, They live comfortably in temps of 66 - 72, but this may need to be raised if your fish needs treatment, I would not handle it too much mind, You sound like you really care about your fishy but too much handling can cause them stress which can make them ill, hope this helps

my black moor is currently in its own tank with swim bladder complicated by columnaris and some fin rot. it is kind of weird how he seems like hes dead when he floats but its just really hard for them to move when their swim bladder is off.

you might want to try a different food -- or if you are feeding him pellets soak them for a while before feeding them.

if you try peas chop them up so its easier for him to eat and try epsom salt baths -- just google epsom salt and swim bladder and you will get all the directions you need.

as a last resort go on to antibiotics. i kind of had to do this backwards because of the columnaris.

this is swim bladder disease, nothing you can do for it, sometimes they recover, sometimes they don't, you can lower the water levels to make it easier for him to swim to the bottom of the tank, go ahead and try the green pea, it can't hurt
try feeding him a flake food so he can easily reach it

He's definately suffering from more than swimbladder. Do you test your water? It could be a water quality issue. It could also be internal flukes, which could be treated with medicated food.

I think it may be because of any harsh substances in the water u are using. Try using moderate temperature for the water and try giving some fish vitamins

Ur Welcome:)
