Missing memory?

my mp3's capacity is only 256 and yet when i reformatted it the toatal capacity indicated is only 242. what happened to the missing memo?

Like a desktop or laptop computer. With NOTHING in the card, you have 256 Mb, but some memory is used for the programming. You have to have a program to send files from card to player or computer. I have a 100 Gb HDD, but about 18Gb is missing. This is again used for programming and backup files. But totally normal.
