I like PC better. I think it is more user friendly for the uh non-computer geek. Several computer science major geeks I know choose the MAC hands down. It depends on how well you handle technology.

If you know very little about computers a mac is definitely the way to go (if it was easy for my Grandma, anybody can do it). It's easier for beginners and is extremely intuitive. Mac's are also great for art applications although PC's are catching up in that department. The PC is great for people who love the hardware side and are really interested in upgrading. If you like to problem solve and figure out how things work, you'll get plenty of opportunities to fix things with a pc running windows. I've also found that PC's are much better for the work environment because of the wealth of software available and compatibility issues.
Ultimately, I prefer my pc to my mac because there's tons of software and games available.

IF MONEY is NOT an issue definately the MAC. It uses similar hardware now and allows dual boots of OS X and Windows which is great. If money is an issue I would go with a PC. PC's also have VM capabilities, but can not run OS X.

Okay, here's the basic ups and downs to both.
PC
Pro- easily upgradeable, runs 95% of the software out there
Con- Not so great at the photo and movie editing
Mac
Pro- Excellent visual quality for top of the line photo and movie editing.
Con- Runs about 5% of the software out there, hard to upgrade
