Unfortunately, some spyware doesn't give any indications of it's presence. However, some things to look for are:
reduced bandwidth (slower internet browsing)
browsing redirection
changes to your home page
programs installing themselves
excessive popups
popups while not doing anything
emails being sent from you email addy that you didn't send
unusually high cpu usage
files appearing, disappearing, or moving
The best thing to do is simply assume that you have spyware. Download Lavesoft's Ad-aware SE Personal. It's free and can be found at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php . Download it and run it at least once a week. The first time you use it it's a good idea to run it, restart your computer, and run it again. If the same items come up you may need to turn off Windows system restore. In Windows XP right click on My Computer, select the System Restore tab, and put a check in the box to turn it off.
Also, viruses can cause the same symptoms. Download AVG's anti-virus software and run a full scan just as frequently.

Likewise, if you have broadband internet, you might want to use Zone Labs' Zone Alarm.

All three of these products are free, work very well together, and are recommended by many reliable sources.

Best indication of having a spyware in your pc is when you are doing nothing, but the CPU usage is high (more than 50% or so), or if you have an active internet connection, then unusual activity on that (suppose you are not downloading anything or surfing etc, but still data transfer is going on).

First of all the PC ,on starting takes more time to open up.Then while you are browsing the speed drastically goes down depending upon the spyware,Unusual windows opening, other intruders trying to acccess your PC etc are symptoms. The cure for this is nothing but INSTALLATION OF GOOD SPYWARE DETECTING AND REMOVING SOFTWARE AND RUNNING IT FREQUENTLY.Go for a good branded software,Good luck to u.
