My stepmom died out of the blue and my father is battling and losing his fight with cancer. all this within th past 4 mos. i started a new position as a re-hire with a company ( they head hunted me). I was to take over an office and on my second day I got the call of horible news...I lost it and in the middle of a discussion I snapped and fled with no word and did not return. I've been balling since. I am terribly afraid I blew it and am shocked at my own behavior. What should I do?

Just apologize for leaving without saying anything and then explain to them what happened. If they don;t show compassion for you because of what happened, then maybe you shouldn"t work for them. I think that they will be understanding, and you will keep your job.

Most people are more understanding than you would think. If I were your employer, I would expect an answer for your actions, and I think that if you explain what happened, they will be very understanding. Besides, If you don't contact them with an excuse, you will probably get blacklisted with that company.
