The empty quarter is probably the hottest place on average. It's a desert in Saudi Arabia that even the bedouins don't go in. It reaches about 131 degrees at noon in the summer. I read a story once about scientists who ventured in looking for a meteor crater. They drove humvees specially fitted with super air conditioners, and the bed section filled with extra gas tanks. They had two in case one broke down. If you get stuck in there you're basically dead.

1. What is the hottest place on Earth?
Count one wrong if you guessed Death Valley in California. True enough on many days. But El Azizia in Libya recorded a temperature of 136 degrees Fahrenheit (57.8 Celsius) on Sept. 13, 1922 -- the hottest ever measured. In Death Valley, it got up to 134 Fahrenheit on July 10, 1913.
