HAHA I like this question. I feel exactly the same. I suppose the only true way of being a history expert is to be there when history happened.

No one can know everything. I am taking a history course right now and last week my professor said, "A historian doesn't know everything about history, but he or she knows where to find the answer." I'm a history major (senior) and a lot of times I don't know the answers to the questions posted here, but I have an inkling of what the answer is and I know where to find the answer easily.

Don't worry no single person knows everything about history. I have a freakishly good knowledge of history from Ancient Egypt to Present Day, and still come across questions on here and offline that I simply don't know the answer to. Don't let it get to you, we may be smart, but no one is an encyclopedia.

Welcome to the halls of expertise! I have two Master's in different branches of history--and am a doctoral student--and I don't know the answers to half the questions! There is simply too much knowledge out there for anyone to know it all--even in a single field of history.
You are just now reaching the point of finding out how much you don't know. Welcome to the club--any historian is painfully aware of this.
The good news is that it never gets boring--because there's always something new to learn. Enjoy! :)

You might be an expert if... a university awarded you a doctorate in history.

You're a (history) expert when you actually know more than you think you know and when you know more than those who think they know.

When you realize that there is no past. The past is simply an illusion. It is nothing more than the mind in the present moment.
When you realize that you can never be absolutely sure that the past has ever existed.
