When I came to decide PSP or DS, I chose the DS because of the games. The UMD movie thing is almost already forgotten on the PSP, and after almost 2 years, there are still only a handful of games that are worth anything.
The DS has been getting more & more developers... and they have been coming up with some really cool ways to take advantage of the DS's features... touchscreen, microphone, and of course, Dual Screen.
You can also Wi-Fi link two or more DS's together for face to face or wi-fi internet play.
No, I don't work for Nintendo, I just really like my DS Lite.
If you have friends that have either system, try them out, then use everyone's input here to make your decision which to buy.

Let's look at the pro's and con's. For example, the PSP can play Cd's, Movies, Games and all of it's features. But the DS can only play Nintendo DS games and GBA games. While the DS has a DS game that allows you to surf the internet(it's for the DS Lite for more info go to http://www.nintendo.com) and most PSP games are shooting, racing ect. But the DS has all catergories like Simultation, Racing, Strategy, Role-Playing ect. There are lots of pro's and cons but there are just a few. Look around for forums that ask which handheld system is better like Nintendo forums ect. I hope that helped. :) Also there is the Wi-Fi connection that is a very good feature of the DS. Chatting and Voice chat on some games is exceptional on the DS. Also drawing while you are bored on the DS is great too. The DS is very much cheaper and popular too. Also I have a DS and would recommend it very much to everyone. Recent studies have shown that out of the DS and PSP the most popular handheld was the DS and it had the most popular games also.(In Japan, Pokemon Diamond(a DS game)had an amazing selling record of 3 million copies sold and in America and Australia, Super Mario Bros. DS is the most selling game on the charts.)

It pretty much depends on how much money you have and how much about each system you know. The DS has friendly interface gameplay and communication and costs about $70 cheaper than PSP and has WiFi capability. On the other hand, with the PSP you can actually surf the internet with ease if you have a wireless internet router. You can get a memory stick to store music/pictures/videos and if you have a friend who knows a bit about the psp system, he/she can make it able for you to play any PSX game/PSP iso on your PSP (as long as you have a large enough memory stick to put games on it). In the end, it comes down to what you prefer: something that is easy to use (the DS) or something that has is capable of complicated technological advances (the PSP with its homebrew programs)
By the way, if you ask people who know how to get their PSP to play games for free...you'll obviously know which system they prefer and why hardly any one cares for the UMD that the PSP uses.

go with the psp i think its better than a nintendo ds cuz u can play music, watch movies, and get on the internet wireless so you can go to a place with wireless internet and connect. and much more features than ds. i think a psp is better than an ipod also in a way cuz it does everything an ipod can do and you can still play games and you can buy as much sandisk cards (memory cards) for more music and movies. i think you should get the psp. and like (Revenant Hamster_ said you can play wifi with the ds you can also do that with the psp. i always play with my friends wireless without the internet and you can also use homebrew to put movies and games directly to your memory.

I don't know much about a PSP. A Nintendo DS is very cool. It can be ruined way easier though. The games for it are really different and very fun. It's jst like any other device but it has 2 softwares in 1.

Nintendo Ds
it is at least $100 cheaper for a start.
You can interact with other players with a Nintendo Ds
by down loading some of the games while you are in range.
You can chat and draw to people to.
it also take game boy advance.
Plus some game like animal cross if your in a hot spot you can enter other people pets house overseas. (you can buy the extra part for it.)
On my dog game I can call my dog and they come. it is sensitive to your voice. The graphic are great with Nintendo games. Also let of class game are been put onto Nintendo or game boy advance.
