Can anyone tell me how big of a asteroid would have to hit the earth to be a global killer meaning to kill everyone on the planet, I know a lot of it gets burned up in the atmosphere, so how big would it have to be when it entered the atmosphere and how big would it have to be when it hit the earth.

You can go to the two websites below and run as many doomsday scenarios as you feel like, but there is little point in worrying about things we can't prevent or predict. NASA is working very hard on ways to destroy or move asteroids right now, and they will probably have a way to do it soon.

The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs was about 6 to 8 miles across. Since the dinosaurs were around a lot longer than humans, they were probably even better at surviving than we are, so the same sized asteroid should do. 6 to 8 miles across doesn't sound very big, but imagine it coming in at 10 or 20 miles per second. It would throw enough dust in the atmosphere to block the sun for years and result in sub-zero temperatures worldwide.

The size of Texas.
But it's more the question of how big and how fast.
