I've heard this song several times and I actually think it's a pretty good song, but I dont really understand what the lyrics are supposed to mean or the point of the song. Can anybody explain?

This is one of my favorite songs. So Much so that I wish it played at my funeral. The song says everything that I wish for my loved ones. It mean don't be afraid to experience all that life has to offer. To put it simply.

The most powerful verse is "whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens"... she's talking about how she wants this other person to live life to the best of his/her abilities. She saying live free and live full, pretty much. When something bad happens, just live on... be free... go out there and make the best of your life. She's saying be fearless in life, instead of sitting on the sidelines wondering what could have happened, get out there and make the best of any situation. She's saying, most of all, to have faith in all choices, all situations, all aspects of life.

Sorry to be so specific, I've adored this song for a very long time...

I think the singer was singing to her daughter who was in ballet or something. Either way, it just seems just like also a metaphor saying that she hopes her daughter makes it through life gracefully.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder- dont ever for get who you are.
You get your fill to eat- its everything you desire....
But always keep that hunger--dont evergive up....
May you never take one single breath for granted--live like yuo are dying...
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed--may God keep yur heart from pain.
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean.....the acean is so big..dont ever feel too big....
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens---that there always be opertunity for you.....
Promise me you'll give fate a fighting chance..fight for what you want...
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance..when you feel like giving up....dont.........
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their years and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their years and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their years and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
