Try feeding some blood worm & observe whether it open its month. Check the body, anything growing on it. If the fish still remain shut. Isolate the goldfish into a small fishtank with water & air pump. Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Observe again for another day. Check fish shop for advice.

Sounds like you may have columnaris or cottony mouth fungus. Try raising temp to 82 and add additional air stones and dose the tank with 4 teaspoons of salt per gallon. Put 1 teaspoon per gallon in the am and then in the pm then again the next day to avoid stress. You can use ice cream salt or kosher salt and rock is better than granual, non- iodized. Keep them all there for 2 weeks then change water 25% at a time every other day until salt is completely diluted. You may want to get a good medicated food as well. Medi-Gold (www.goldfishconnection.com) is a great product and works miracles.

Perhaps something got stuck in his throat. Goldfish are notorious at picking at the gravel. If you have gravel that is small enough it could have gotten jammed in his mouth. Even if this isn't the case, I suggest removing all small gravel from the tank and replacing it with bigger pebbles or stones in the near future. Hand removal will be the only way to get out something stuck in the throat, and you must be very careful.
