......So he concluded perhaps the reason the Cromagnon prevailed was because the Nenderthal could not talk. Now, how can that be? Surely he could make sounds. All animals do. And he had a tongue and lips. And a parrot can form words without all the mouth equipment. So what would prevent the Neanderthal from having a language?

There is lots of disagreement among "experts".

Some claim that modern man and the Neandertals interbred.

I've know several people that would seem to support by their facial construction, that theory.

Are you saying our president recently had a physical including x-rays? I'm surprised they didn't find those bones a long time ago. He does make sounds, although they are not very articulate. His VP parrot echoes the same.

I don't know what prevents the Neanderthal from having a language. Perhaps it is bad motor neurons in the brain receptacles, which interfere with speech. Maybe I misunderstood the question.

there is a massive difference between being able to make sounds and developing language skills. There are a lot of things that could prevent them developing a language, lack of brain development, lack of ability to diversify sounds sufficiently, or perhaps the magic that takes place just didn't. Keep in mind our recorded history beings with language very fully developed, we don't even have legends of a time when we didn't have one, we have no idea how it happens or what environmental contributions there are.
