First off, I assume you are aware there are liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats so not sure how exactly to answer this question.
I will just answer based on my being a democrat and being far left.
I used to think Republicans and Democrats thought alike a great deal. I have changed my mind based on some fundamental core differences. One being my belief that the cause allowing the expansiion of globalization was due to all the deregulation of major monopolies. Republicans are stauntly anti-regulation. I think it is necessary in order to maintain a non-corrupt caplitalist structure that throughout history, always tends to end with a huge gap between the megarich and the poor.
Anyways, as far as limiting the rights of terrorists detainees for me is not about the suspension of ... as you put it.
It is more about surrendering our humanity and morality... our code of conduct that we claim makes us a civilized country.

Liberals and Conservatives have nothing in common. Liberals think that America is great because of its government. Liberals are all for big intrusive government. Conservatives on the other hand think that America is great because of it's individuals, and are for less government and more individual freedom from big government. You can go to the dictionary and look up the definition for Democrat, then do it with Republican, this should help you with getting a better understanding. As for me, I am neither, I vote libertarian.

The Liberals are correct, because none of the laws regarding terror detainees is limited to them. There are provisions that can be used against US citizens.
Conservatives are wrong, becasue in this country, their sense of morality is exactly that: THEIR'S. Has nothing to do with anyone else.
Now, some genius is gonna jump up and say "But murder is a moral value." Murder is a crime in every known civilization. And theft is also, wherever there is private property.

Wait try this - Do Liberals and Conservaties think alike...they both believe in the freedom to choose: Liberals think its OK to kill unborn humans in the womb and Conservatives think its OK to own a firarm. The difference is one is a constitutionally protected right and the other is a BAD precedent handed down by a liberal supreme court legislating from the bench...
So the premise of you question is slanted - the domino theory doesn't apply - but thanks for playing!

I believe that liberals and conservatives think alike in the fact that they believe their views are the views that would serve the American people the best. Besides personal beliefs, these views/values are ones that they have been brought up with through family, friends, teachers and other mentors. Other than that, they are basically total opposites.

well... of course there are general themes and thought processes that almost everyone shares to some degree...
often it seems that just the priorities of each party is different and they go about many things in the same ways... just focusing on different issues...
maybe not all the time... but much of the time...
and on a side note... I think some things are worth being paranoid over...

all fanatics of all types think alike, I'm not sure there is much more to it than that. It does seem the loudest voices have a similar pattern but then the loudest voices are always fanatics.
