I've had two inkjets, a Canon Bubblejet (not bad) and, currently, an Epson Stylus (HUGE MISTAKE! It's the worst rip-off where ink is concerned). I have no experience with other brands, but Consumer Reports recently gave high marks to certain HP and Canon Pixma inkjets, as well as Brother monochrome lasers.

For best quality and reliablity the best printers are still the Hewlett Packard, but the Lexmark is a nice inexpensive printer.

The best printer is the one that matches your needs, if you are going to do some heavy duty printing then you may want to spend a few extra dollars for a better quality machine.

Brother has been known to break down right after the warrenty runs out.

When I got my computer I quickly went through about 3 hand me down hewlet packards that friends and family had given to me. (what does that tell you) I then purchased me a cheap lexmark at Wal Mart and was amazed at how much better it printed(sharper photo images etc.) , I use it on a daily basis, and it has been going good now for over 8 years with no problems. I have no experience with Epson. But from my experience you can't go wrong with Lexmark, it seems to be superior the the hp. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
