A person who made money in the past year must file if he or she made more than $5150 (assuming single, under 65, and not blind). If you made less, you should probably at least fill out the forms to see if you are due a refund. I would have to know what state(s) you live and work in to answer about those forms.

Despite what others have said, your parents can still claim you as a dependent even if you file. You will have to mark off on the form that you can be claimed as a dependent (by checking the box "You" on line 5 on form 1040EZ), and you will not get the full standard deduction for yourself. Otherwise, the form itself should be pretty simple.

Being a minor doesn't matter, it's how much you make.

If the parents meet the rules for claiming their child as a dependent, then yes, the parent can claim them even if the child files also. In that case, the child should mark his or her return that they are a dependent (there's a box on line 5 of the 1040EZ form).

Assuming all income is from a part time job and it's not self-employment, a person who is a dependent must file a return if they made over $5150. A person who is NOT a dependent must file if their income is over $8450.

If someone is not required to file but had federal income tax withheld, then they should file a return to get their withholding refunded to them.

Depending on where you live, there might be requirements for state and local also - the rules vary by location.

It depends on how much they make I think that if you pay taxes then you should file so you can get money back. And if a child works any amount of time a parent cannot claim the child on there taxes. Once they reach 18-19 or the child works you cannot claim them.

Everyone that has taxes pulled out of their check has to pay taxes. Their parents then can no longer claim them. The only way to avoid this is the employer doesn't pull out any taxes.
