How do I change a character`s clothing in Sims 2?

Is there a way to change a sim`s outfit once the family is created and I`m playing the game? The wardrobe has a very limited number of options!

1. make sure you have enough cash
2. buy the clothes in the boutique
3. find in the wardrobe

Two things, first buy a dresser and second take your sim shopping. Then when you go into the dresser you can change your sims outfits to the new ones you just bought.

You would have to take your sim shopping and buy whatever clothes you want and then come back home, then finally try out whatever.
