I am a wrestling coach and have been involved with wrestling for 20 years now. First of all "mat herpes" is extremely rare in my state. We had one school have an outbreak in all my years wrestling, and it was dealt with before it spread anywhere else. What is much more common is the curable diseases, ringworm and empatigo. All of theses are easily preventable, and are almost 100% preventable when you mop mats EVERY DAY and the kids shower right after practice, and never wear the same clothes to more than one practice between washes.

Why would they sue the school for it? It sounds like its a known issue and the wrestlers know that it is a possibility when wrestling. Can't the wrestler's take some personal responsibility for choosing to compete in the sport. Next we'll have football players suing their high school for injuries on the field. Then we'll end up with schools eliminating all sports because it's too costly to deal with all the lawsuits.

You can sue anybody for anything. Personally, I think all wrestlers should get herpes. Maybe they'll come to their senses and see how rediculous they look on the mat doing doggy with another guy.

How do you know it was spread on the mats? My guess is its a few of the experimenting types who are a little embarrassed about how they contracted it and are looking for an out.
