couldnt we just buy subsidised food from europe and america

Sure. I'm sure most Australians can afford 4 or 5 times what they currently pay for meat, fruits & vegetables... -couldn't they?

Yeah, of course you can buy subsidised food from America! What do you want to grow your own food for, for Petes sake!
And you have all that bush tucker over there too. Don't worry, be happy!

You can and will. But the decline of wildlife around the planet, coupled with a decline in arable land & rising sea levels will bring with it MUCH higher food prices & real estate prices, & potentially an army of impoverished displaced unwanted unfortunates left to slowly die in extreme poverty in detention centres - not very good.
And for the rest of us it will mean that we will have to cut down on other things we can no longer afford.

If only we could sue all the politicians that refused to take part in the Kyoto deal & make them pay for ALL the damages caused by global warming.
